How often do you see a player hit a ball that was going out of bounds and lose the opportunity for gaining an easy point? So how do you stop hitting balls going out of bounds? Two important factors have to be considered when deciding not to hit a ball going out of bounds. First is your position on the court. Are you near a sideline or the back line? If so any ball above your waist heading out of bounds should never be hit. Second you have to judge the speed of the ball headed out of bounds. The faster the speed the more likely it will land out of bounds if it is headed in that direction. Finally I think that many players have a "hit the ball every time" mentality. Practice letting more balls go by and improve your judgement skills on out of bound balls. Remember when you are near an out of bounds line a hard hit ball above your waist is one you should not hit a return.
