Organized Play - With the weather turning warmer we will be making some changes to the current schedule in the near future. The days will stay the same but times will be changing to allow for earlier sessions for cooler temperatures. Our session coordinators will be deciding the changes needed and when this will go into effect.
Additional HCPA PB Sessions - We are planning to add two additional evening PB sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. These sessions are primarily targeted to those working during the day. We plan to start off with a small number of players to assess the availability of courts during the evenings at the selected locations. If we find additional courts are available we can then expand the number of players. The Tuesday evening session will be an All Skills session held at Vantage Park from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The Thursday evening session will also be an All Skills session from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm but the location has yet to be decided. To offer playing opportunities to as many members as possible, please only sign up for one session a day.
Howard Co. Recreation & Parks Open Play - HCRP is planning on adding some open play sessions at three parks: Hammond Neighborhood Park, Schooley Mills Park and Western Regional Park. There has been no definitive news on the days or times but they are currently soliciting volunteers to manage the sessions as Volunteer Site Supervisors. This should provide the pickleball community more playing opportunities. Several of our members have volunteered to assist with this effort. We are looking forward to the expanded availability of the playing opportunities.
COVID-19 Precautions - We are hearing in the news that virus variants are starting to spread more prevalently. The President and CDC continue to recommend the wearing of masks, social distancing and washing hands to prevent the spread of the virus. Like the rest of the nation, many of us are getting tired of these precautions and are not following the guidance. HCPA still recommends the use of masks when not playing and to try to maintain the social distancing if possible. It will be your personal prerogative to determine how you follow these recommendations; however, we ask that you be considerate of your fellow members to respect their their safety. We have been very fortunate as to not needing the use of the contact tracing information we have been collecting. Let's keep it that way.
